The hippocampus is one of the few areas of the brain that keeps growing throughout life. This process is probably essential for memory formation but makes it susceptible to external influences including exercise and drugs.
Peter Wigmore will give a brief overview of the brain and the location of the hippocampus, its role in memory and what happens when it goes wrong. He will finish up with some recent information on where different words are processed in the brain and how the hippocampus might be involved.
